How To Get Customers To Trust and Buy From You
It's not easy to get people to trust and buy from you. Most people think " I'm going to make products that people are looking for and make money!" It's not as easy as it sounds. In order to get buyers or even repeat buyers to purchase from you, they have to trust you. These tips will help you to convert people to want to buy from you whether its the first or fifth time. You have to implement these tips correctly in order for people to trust you and your business.
In order to get people to want to buy from your shop, you must have nice photos. This may take time and a lot of practice. Some helpful tips on making sure that you have good photos are:
- Take them in good lighting
- Take them at the correct angle
- Don't make the photos dark
- Don't over crowd the product with props
- Make it clear what the product is
- Don't over edit your photos
You never know what people are thinking about your shop when they view your products. They are judging you and your photos, and might not even know it. It is important that you make your photos stand out and grab there attention, in a good way. Don't make the customer confused about what you are trying to sell. Make sure that your photos are consistent. You want your photos to look like they are all apart of the same shop. Also if you use Photoshop to edit your photos, make sure that you don't over edit them. People can tell when you over Photoshop a image to try and make it look nicer. There are ways to use Photoshop to enhance the image to look more natural.
I would recommend getting the appropriate lighting to take your photos. Here is a basic lighting package for beginners. When you do start to edit your photos, I would suggest that you use Photoshop for the best results.
The Overall Look Of Your Shop
There is only so much that you can control on Etsy. You aren't allowed very much branding opportunities. So with that being said, you have to make your shop look very professional and make your branding noticeable. If you have your own website, then you have a lot more freedom to arrange your shop in a way that best represents your branding.
- The fonts you use
- The colors you use
- The designs
When it comes to buyers looking at the reviews of your products, they aren't just looking at what other customers have said, but at your response as well. It is very important that you have good customer service. Don't wait 3-5 days before you respond to a customers question, comment or complaint. You also don't want to rush to respond to them either. If you see that a customer has a question, complaint or comment, take time to think about what you want to say to them. Make sure that you are staying professional. You don't want to sound like you don't care about their complaint or comment. Saying things like " it was in the description" or "that's how you put it in the notes" makes it sound like you don't care about the customers problem or issue. If you are genuine with your response, then you will get more repeat buyers.

Things That Help Convert The Customer
When it comes to making changes to convert customers, there are three major things that you must do to convert them.
- Make your descriptions detailed
- Make your title clear
- Have great customer service
- Make check out easy
- FAQ section
- Return and exchange policey
These things will help customers trust you more, and take you serious. The buyer needs to know what it is exactly that you are selling and what it is used for. People can't see, feel or tough you product, so they have to rely on the description as well as photos. In your description, you can't just say what the product is.
For example if you sell home decor don't put:
- 8inx12in wooden sign
Go into more detail about what your product contains and what it could be used for such as:
- This 8inx12in wooden sign with your initials printed in script is perfect for a housewarming gift. You choose the type of wood from A,B,C and the color of the initials.
Make sure that you do these things to insure a well written description:
- You have to entice the buyer so they feel like your product is right for their needs
- If you sell anything that is digital and not something that they will personally receive, make sure you have it in your title, description, and even in the photos
- You don't want to overwhelm the customer with a lot of information about the product
- Keep the description clear and to the point
- Don't make the customers hunt for information that should be in your description
- Make sure it is well formatted, clear to read and easy to skim
Don't make excuses as to why you don't have good descriptions. Don't blame the customer because you think that they don't read the description anyways. Once in awhile you will get customers that think they are receiving one thing, and get another even though you have it was in your description. Whether people choose to read your descriptions or not, you must put all the details of your product within it. If you are having a lot of complaints regarding your product, then you need to consider what is causing all of the complaints. Maybe it is your description, title, or photos that are confusing the customer. Encourage the buyer to contact you directly if they have any questions regarding their purchase.

Easy To Navigate
Make sure that you shop is easy to navigate. When building your own website, make sure that you have everything layed out in a way that is easy for the customer to use, especially when it comes to check out. If they feel like the check out process is to complicated, then they are more likely to buy something from another shop. It is important that you FAQ section is very detailed so that all of the customers potential questions are answered. Make sure that your policy and exchange section is filled out in detail as well. It is important that you have this section in case you offer returns or exchanges. Even if you don't accept returns or exchanges, you must make that clear within the description and in the FAQ section. Understand the time that it will take you to implement all these within your shop. If your shop or website doesn't look like a legit person is running it, then they might not take you seriously and not purchase anything from you. But overall, make sure that your shop or website looks professional. Don't make it confusing for the buyer.
