Now that you have your basics, let’s get into the fun stuff:
DON’TS: Things You Should NOT Put In Your Packages
- Business Cards
- Candy/Snacks
- Nothing at all
5. DO NOT Put Business Cards In Your Packages
Adding a plain business card to your package is not necessarily wrong, but it is boring. Most inserts get thrown away when a customer opens their package, so in order to avoid that I would suggest adding a thank you card insert instead. This way they are being thanked for their purchase, and not just thrown a business card that they won’t keep.
“You will be remembered more for your kindness than any level of success you could possibly attain.”

6. DO NOT Put Candy/Snacks in Your Packages
This is a new thing, especially on Tik Tok. I think it is more likely that your customer will throw it away to avoid any possible dangers, so don’t waste your time or money.
Dangers:
- Poison (a real fear!)
- Allergies
- Damage to Product (They could melt and ruin the product)
7. DO NOT Put Nothing At All
This is kind of a given, and something you definitely know if you are looking up Etsy packaging ideas. Not putting anything in your packages suggests that you do not care about the customer, or your own product.
DOS: Things You SHOULD Put In Your Packages
- Tissue (Personalized/Plain)
- Thank You Card/Social Media Card
- Quality Card
- Stickers
- Cushioning
8. Tissue Paper Inserts for Packages
Tissue paper suggests to the customer that their order is a gift. It might be presumptuous to assume that everyone loves receiving gifts, but I’m going to assume away because I know I do!

FAQs: Packaging Ideas for Etsy

1. Should I send inserts with gifts?
- Yes and No. I send gifted items with a quality card and branding card only. The quality card gives peace of mind that a real person made their gift, and the branding is so they can look your business up on other platforms.
2. What should I include in my Etsy package?
- If you are still unsure on what all to include in your package, at the very least, include a thank you card and a branding card. You can test the waters with these, and progressively get more fancy with it in time. Actually, you’d be surprised how often your inserts will change throughout your time as a seller!
3. How do you package things you sell?
- One thing we didn’t discuss was how to arrange things within the package, but its okay. This is a learn as you go type of thing. You will notice some placements work better than others in terms of aesthetic or in terms of handling during shipping. I recommend taking notes as you go.
Well, you’ve made it to the end – congrats! I hope you were able to get inspired by some of these Etsy packaging ideas. I look forward to purchasing from some of you and seeing what y’all come up with!
